The Pixie, the Rachel, the Farrah and the Bob

Jean Seberg and her Pixie and Jennifer Aniston and her famous 'Rachel'.

No one will ever forget Farrah's famous flicks and Louise Brooks broke all the rules of the day with her super short bob and blunt fringe.

Hair cuts come and go, they take on a life of their own (read: the Rachel), they can completely transform someone's look and a particular shape can become an icon on its own.  Even Demi Moore's short do for the movie Ghost became a hit (I know it was for me!)

A few months ago I got so sick of my hair falling out from stress from our move back to Australia that I took Hubby's electric clippers and cut it all off.

I know what you're thinking (holy crap!) but this is not the first time I have done this and so I knew what to expect.  I felt liberated and cool (not in the Fonzy way of cool, but temperature cool because I had been struggling to live through my first really hot summer in many years and frankly, it was driving me crazy!  Always sticking to my neck and forehead!

Cut to 3 months later and it has grown out into a nice little pixie cut.  It's occurred to me that this is all very fortuitous as the Pixie is all the rage in Hollywood right now.

Ginnifer Goodwin

Carey Mulligan

Mia Wasikowska

 Michelle Williams

Many leading ladies, starlets and models have completely changed their look by cutting off their locks.  Most of the time it works too.  Thanks god, because it sure does take a long time to grow back (that's if you do it the old-fashioned way and forget about extensions).

Kate Moss cut off her locks for Chanel.

Katie Holmes increased her chic status with her long Pixie.

In Sabrina, Audrey's character cuts her hair off is unrecognizable by the caddish David.  My favourite Pixie cuts over the years are definitely Winona Ryder and Meg Ryan.

But it goes without saying that for me, Jean Seberg set the bar in the 60s with her iconic Pixie.  Although an honorable mention must also go to Mia Farrow.

Is anyone else out there willing to give the Pixie a try?  As I've always said, a change is as good as a holiday.
