Designer Inspiration

PICASSO
The artist's work was REIMAGINED in countless collections

Painting: Painter with Palette at Easel, 1928
Runway: Giambattista Valli.

Painting: Femme nue avec la tête de l'homme, 1967
Runway: 3.1 Philip Lim.

From Guernica to portraits of Dora Maar, the paintings of Pablo Picasso are ingrained in our collective visual language. This season, the influence of that creative genius showed up in new medium: fashion. Giambattista Valli got graphic with a chic black-&-white number, Philip Lim focused on cubist forms in his streamlined shift, and Ruffian designers Claude Morais and Brian Wolk worked Picasso's vivid use of color into a swirling sequined frock. Seems we all know a good thing when we see it A.M.

Painting: Portrait de l'homme a l'épée et a la fleur, 1969
