Season of the Brogue

I am in need of new shoes for winter and my pick for this Autumn/Winter season is the Brogue.  I did a post on brogues last year and they are now starting to appear in stores down here so I am off to snap up a pair I spied in none other than the Australian Women's Weekly (I know!).

The brogue in my sights from Country Road as seen in the April issue of AWW.

My inspiration for these versatile footwear came from none other than my go-to blogger, Garance Dorè.

Other brogue inspirations have come from all over, but the Prada Spring/Summer 2011 collection of platform brogues are right up there for me, the colours alone make them look like licorice all-sorts.
Katherine Hepburn in her wingtip brogues, you can't beat this look for it's classic masculine/feminine appeal.

When I told my husband that I was going to be sporting brogues this winter he was horrified.  Why? I don't really understand his reasoning, but he is under the impression that brogues have had their day and he even regrets wearing them back in the 90s.  As I haven't worn them before I figure that it's a look that must be investigated so I disagree with him entirely of course!

Prada Fall 2011

This could get ugly...

I'm sorry to tell you this, but Prada thinks that we'll be wearing bonnets this Autumn/Winter too.  What's worse, is that some of them will be furry, and some of them made from python.  Have no fear though, for I am certain that Anna Wintour and Emmanuelle Alt will do their best to make these little accessories look absolutely must-have when they appear in the pages of their respective issues of VOGUE.

Miuccia's team at Prada are masters at interpreting her design direction and as we take our first look at the current collection, it is not until we see how the looks filter down from the runway and out onto the street, where they are photographed  by the likes of Garance or Tommy Ton that we truly see these clothes come into their own.  (But this could be true of most designers, I think).

Dropped waists, pleats and coat dresses. Flokati rugs, mermaids, aviator goggles, oversized buttons, belt buckles on low hanging, wide belts, and shoes that can't decide what they are - high heel or knee-high boot.

But in the end, it really is lots of fun and we shouldn't take it too seriously, should we?

These Shoes Are Good for the Soul (or should I say sole?)

 The YSL cage
Are they practical?  Non, but does it make her feet look transcendent?  Oui, absolument!

Once again it is time to lust after some goodies for your feet.
As always they are avant garde, unconventional, and impossibly unattainable.
So relax, kick back and enjoy my little fashionistas!

Aren't these Christian Louboutin hot pink platform pumps delovely?

 Christian Louboutin

These Louboutin boots are fierce.  They look like they belong to a domanitrix or a stormtrooper, either way the woman that wears these boots is not to be trifled with I can assure you.

Another architectural triumph!

These might be a little closer to being mine that I ever thought possible after I spotted a pair in a store window this week.  J'adore the look of these with the torn jeans, don't you?

Awesome to see world-famous New Zealand designer Karen Walker being worn on the feet of some Parisienne Voguette!

Prada platforms
These look a little precarious to walk in, but oh so hot.

These are just cool.  I don't think I would ever take these off my feet.

Well heeled?  Carine Roitfeld in her Martin Margiela boots.  We've seen her in these boots before, but honestly, I just can't believe that these would be comfortable.  Oh, I forgot!  It has absolutely nothing to do with comfort - it's all about fashion, n'est pas?

Ann Demuelemeester

This Belgian designer is famed for her gothic designs, which makes this boot with its sharp heel and multiple laces pure goth.

I don't know about the acid green pants, but these Marni platforms look super comfy, don't you think?  But then again, they probably aren't.

Well there it is, this weeks round up of all that is funky and fashionable in shoes.

Of course, we can dream, can't we?
