Nicki Minaj Name Checks Ricki Lake in New Britney Spears Remix

 

A few days ago, Britney Spears released an official remix for her current hit "Till the World Ends" featuring future tourmate Nicki Minaj as well as the song's original co-writer, Ke$ha. The track opens with a concentrated diss from Ms. Minaj, most likely directed at none other than Lil' Kim, with a cutting exit line: "You was hot when? Ricki Lake!"

Minaj half-explained via Twitter, "I used to loooove me some Ricki Lake!" Meaning, the subject of the diss has not been popular since the days of Ricki Lake's talk show (i.e. the '90s).

Although her name is being used to put someone down, Lake has taken the namecheck as a compliment. She tweeted Monday evening, "So apparently I'm trending... Thanks @nickiminaj.... makes me feel almost like a #kardashian. :)"

Nicki Minaj loves being in the spotlight, but there are some drawbacks to all the fame and fortune. For instance: It's hard to know who her true friends are anymore.

She said: “I’m not a trusting person. I think it’s because I’ve had to deal with so many people letting me down. I’ve lost my peace of mind. I no longer know who’s my friend or my enemy. I don’t know if they’re calling me because they like me or because they want a photo op, and that’s not a good feeling. I’m always second-guessing everyone, trying to figure out, ‘Who is this person, and what do they want from me?’ ”

The Massive Attack singer explained one of the reasons why she struggles to trust her friends was she was recently invited to a pal’s house, only for three strangers to come in and ask her to sign their CDs. She told BlackBook magazine: “I wasn’t expecting that from one my closest friends.”

Despite her frustration, Nicki insists she is still happy to be famous, though she has learned to appreciate that being valued for her work is more important than being recognised.
She said: “I’ve always wanted fame. But when I achieved fame, I started realizing that it wasn’t as important as being great at what you do, or being critically acclaimed. Still, I never wish I wasn’t famous.”

She just keeps getting more prolific and Nicki Minaj is on the cover of the latest issue of BlackBook magazine.

The Pink Friday rapper explained that while things are great for her now, she almost gave up on her dream of being a rock star.

“I had no money, I had no one to call, and I was out on my own. I also had the burden of not wanting to tell my mother that I was out of a job, and could I come back home? Besides faith in God, the only thing that got me through that time was the fear of what would happen to my family if I didn’t make it. I remember thinking, I don’t know if this is ever going work but I’m going to give it one final try.”

As for the comparisons to Lady GaGa, Nicki shared, “We both do the awkward, non-pretty thing. What we’re saying - what I’m saying, anyway - is that it’s okay to be weird. And maybe your weird is my normal. Who’s to say? I think it’s an attitude we both share.”

When it comes to guys, “I’m not the type to be talking to a random dude in the club. Unless I know him, I don’t even want to be introduced to him, because it always turns into me being perceived as the ultimate whore-bag. I remember one time I saw a guy, someone famous, who was at one of my parties. I kissed him on the cheek and went to my seat, and they put up a story that me and him left together that night and went to a hotel.”

Nicki Minaj Refuses to Ride Escalators

 Nicki Minaj reportedly caused a fuss at the National Basketball Players Association Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday, after insisting photographers travel to her backstage area at the JW Marriott hotel because she didn’t want to take the escalator.

 A source told the New York Post newspaper: "There was a little drama... She had time before she was due to go onstage, but she couldn't be persuaded.

“But the photographers and crews were desperate for her picture, so they all had to come upstairs and hustle backstage to get the shot.

“Nicki was polite and posed up."

It is not known if Nicki Minaj didn’t want to travel on the moving stairway because of a phobia or because of what she was wearing. If she does have a fear of escalators, Nicki Minaj would not be the only star to have an unusual phobia.

Actor Johnny Depp suffers from clourophobia, a fear of clowns, while Billy Bob Thornton has a phobia of antique furniture and Nicole Kidman has admitted to an irrational fear of butterflies.

At the Gala on Saturday, Nicki’s friend Rihanna performed, while other A-list stars in attendance included Beyonce and her husband, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, P. Diddy, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Ne-Yo, Gene Simmons and Steven Tyler.

Nicki Minaj, Drake & Lil Wayne's All-Star Weekend

Joining in on the National Basketball Association happenings, Nicki Minaj made her rounds at the All-Star Weekend parties in Los Angeles on Saturday night (February 19).

The "Right Thru Me" hitmaker teamed up with Drake and Lil Wayne as the trio attended the IMP Entertainment and Steve Marlton Worldwide Allstar Event at Siren Studios.

Miss Minaj also was among the many big names making appearances at the JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE for Ciroc's NBA Player's Association Gala.

Nicki Minaj: Gearing Up for the Grammys

Gearing up for her first experience on the grand stage, Nicki Minaj was spotted arriving at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday (February 12).

The "Right Thru Me" singer is preparing for her first Grammy weekend, as she's nominated for her first Grammy and will be among the star presenters, as well.

Aside from her Grammy doings, Miss Nicki Minaj recently partnered with 1-800-Flowers for the Pink Collection just in time for the Valentine's Day holiday.

A report tells that "customers can choose from four different pink rose bouquets including the Everlasting Love package, which features a mixture of pink and red roses and white calla lilies."


Prices range from $44- $349 and include a download of one of Nicki's romantically-themed singles including "Moment 4 Life," "Save Me" and "Right Thru Me."

Continuing on her meteoric rise to fame, Nicki Minaj showed up at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards this evening (February 13).

The “Pink Friday” rapper was glad to be part of the festivities as she posed for the press at Los Angeles’ Staples Center with her multi-colored hairdo situated in an upright style.

Nicki Minaj is one of the night’s presenters, along with Neil Patrick Harris, Miley Cyrus, Kris Kristofferson, Norah Jones, and Selena Gomez.

As for performers, there’s plenty of talent scheduled, including Drake, Cee-Lo, Eminem, Katy Perry, and Lady GaGa.

"Moment 4 Life" Video On the Way

Her fans have patiently waited for this, and tomorrow will bring Nicki Minaj's long-awaited “Moment 4 Life” video on MTV.

The clip, which was shot in December in Los Angeles, features Young Money labelmate Drake and is rumored to show the pair playing up their "are they or aren't they?" relationship with a kiss, says MTV’s website.


Of the video, Drake said, "I think it's crazy that somehow, some higher power brought all these individuals together."

"I remember being on the [tour] bus when Wayne played me ‘Tha Carter III,’ which went on to sell a million copies in one week. Then it was ‘Thank Me Later.’ It was this big pressure, and that went on to sell what it did,” the Canadian rapper added.

Williams sent this message to America before leaving for rehab this week, while Nicki Minaj says in the latest issue of V:

“I’m an entertainer - I like to make people laugh. Some will hate it and some will love it, but all will remember it. And that’s what I want: to be remembered. Even if I’m saying something hard-core or controversial, there’s always a touch of humor, and if you don’t like it, it means I’m stirring things up inside of you.”

Speaking on her unique persona, the rapper also says: “I would crumple up and die if I had to wake up and be the same person every day."
