"Rio" Tops "Madea" & "Elephants" for Box Office Glory

 

With the animation domination continuing its grip at the box office, "Rio" held onto the top spot during the Easter holiday weekend (April 22-24).

The Anne Hathaway starring bird caper raked in an estimated $26.5 million during its second week of release to bring its grand total to an impressive $80.9 million.

Coming in at a close second place was the always-popular Tyler Perry's "Madea's Big Happy Family," which earned approximately $26 million on opening weekend.

Rounding out the top five were the much-awaited Robert Pattinson and Reese Witherspoon picture "Water For Elephants" ($17.5 million), the animated bunny-based flick "Hop" ($12 million) and "Scream 4" ($7 million).

Anne Hathaway's performance with James Franco at the Oscars last night has received mixed reviews, but the actress says she loved every minute of the evening.

She told talk show host Oprah Winfrey: "I had a blast. I kept waiting to become nervous. Everyone kept asking me, 'Are you nervous?’ The whole ride from beginning to end was joy, pure joy."

She added it was "fun to play off [James] with our two different energies."

While James did not appear on the talk show with Anne, citing a need to return to his university studies at Yale and NYU, Oprah praised the actress saying the “stars aligned” for her.

Oprah told Anne: "You were great. I think all the stars aligned for you in that moment last night," said Oprah. "It was like a big bang moment for your life and career."

Despite Oprah’s enthusiasm, not everyone was impressed, with BBC reporter Ben Sutherland blasting Anne and James for their lack of chemistry.

He said:  "The pair failed to find the chemistry that would lead to their partnership being remembered as a success -- or indeed to be remembered at all.

"At the heart of the problem was the lack of spark between the two. He came across as disinterested and she appeared to be over-excited."

Probably many would have thought that the Oscar host pair Anne Hathaway and James Franco was forced to work together for the event. However, it turned out that Anne and James actually received this offer because of ‘mutual interest’!

“When I was offered at first I said, ‘No, thank you. I guess this is not for me’. Then they contacted me again a few weeks later and said ‘James Franco will be the host as well’. I said, ‘Ooooooh, this will be very interesting! ‘”said Anne at the Good Morning America show.

And it was not only Anne, who was ”attracted’ to James, but in the other hand, James also had the same feeling. “Well, I’ve admired her from a few years ago,” said James which was immediately responded delightedly by Anne.

In fact, Franco had time to ‘take a chance’ by becoming the Oscar host with Anne, by approached her and asked if Anne was interested in marriage and having children.

“(This is) one of the reasons that made me excited about bringing the show with Anne. I thought I had the chance, but it turns out she has a boyfriend, so it would just be a dream. So? Just curious,” Franco said.

Hearing this, Anne answered with diplomatic tone that she hopes will become a mother within the next 5 years.

Oh I like this! Christopher Nolan who is set to direct the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, announced today that he has cast Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in the film!

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”

Anne’s star certainly seems to be on the rise! I think she’ll be incredible as Catwoman! Nolan also revealed that Tom Hardy has been cast to play villain Bane;

“I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

Christian Bale of course will play the title role in the movie. So what do you think about Anne Hathaway donning the famous Catwoman catsuit?!

With production on ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ set to begin in May, the search for its stars is underway. Rumor has it that Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Keira Knightley, Kate Mara, and Gemma Arterton are all under consideration for the female lead.

Christopher Nolan reportedly is expecting Anne, Jessica, and Keira to complete screen tests this month. The only thing that’s unclear is if they are testing for the love interest or the female villain.

Hmm..which of these leading ladies would make for a good love interest opposite Christian Bale? I wonder if Maggie Gyllenhaal will return as Rachel? Or maybe Katie Holmes will come back?

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that ‘Love and Other Drugs‘ star Anne Hathaway and ‘127 Hours‘ star James Franco will host the Academy Awards next year.

I’ve just learned that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has asked James Franco and Anne Hathaway to host the Academy Awards, and it “looks like” both young stars have accepted the offer. There is always the chance that one or both of them might back out because of prior commitments and other concerns. But my sources say the host announcement could be made as soon as this week…

What’s most unusual about their hosting is that both thesps may be Oscar nominees themselves in the fiercely competitive Best Actor and Actress categories this awards season…

I don’t know… the comedians often seem to have trouble being as funny as normal when they’re hosting the Oscars, but I think I’d rather see them try, at least. What do you think:
UPDATE: It appears that both actors have accepted and it’s a done deal. The official statement:

“James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons— fresh, exciting and multi-talented. We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on February 27. Anne shared with FOX Pop Tarts, “It’s racy – very racy. I keep asking people if it is too sexy for them. However it is just part of the job.”

“That being said, it is intensely mortifying taking your clothes off in front of other people, but it is also intensely mortifying doing a lot of things in front of people and I’ve learned how to deal with that. Who knows if I will ever do it again, it depends on the material.”

Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, And Liv Tyler Are Possible Credit Card Fraud Victims

A Beverly Hills salon owner is being accused of ripping off several high profile celebrities by making unauthorized charges to their credit cards. Maria Gabriella Perez, owner of Chez Gabriella Salon, has allegedly racked up $280,000 in charges on her clients' credit cards over the course of a year.

"fraudulently [charging] approximately $280,000 worth of charges in a one year period."

Among the celeb clients mentioned in the affidavit: Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, Liv Tyler, and Melanie Griffith. Liv is reportedly the one who got hit the hardest with over $214,000 charged to her account!

They're probably an easy target for fraud because they most likely don't handle their own bills and why would an accountant question it, right? Hopefully it all gets straightened out quickly.  (imnotobsessed)
